ANSO TRAVEL EXCURSION PROGRAM
We organize following excursions, boat trips and walking tours:
SAMARIA GORGE : A visit to Crete’s pride and Europe´s longest gorge. The council of Europe designated the National Park of Samaria as a nature reserve of great importance. The Samaria gorge offers a plethora of natural features including wild-flowers, century-old trees, impressive rocky formations, crystal-clear springs. You may also have the chance to see the wild goat Kri-Kri. Our tour begins early in the morning, your walk will start at a height of 1200 m, climbing down the first 3 km. Later, we will pass through the famous Iron Gates and some old deserted villages. The walk lasts approximately 4-5 hours, depending on your pace. A guide is always nearby to ensure your safety. In Agia Roumeli, you will have time to have a lunch, before boarding the ferry to Chora Sfakion. From here we return home by coach. NECESSARY EQUIPMENT: proper shoes, snack, hat, sun cream, bottle for water (in the gorge there are fresh cold watersprings every 3 km where you can update your water).

SANTORINI : A visit of the island with the most beatiful breathtaking sea views. We offer a whole package excursion to the island Santorini, including the transfer with a comfortable coach from Plakias to the port in Rethymnon, boattrip to and back from Santorini, round cruise with a coach through the island of Santorini with a proffesional guide and the trasfer with a coach back to Plakias. There is breakfast and dinner on the way with the ferry included in the price. Our own guide will be with you all the time providing you with information. The round cruise on Santorini includes visit of Pyrghos- the oldest settlement on the island, village of Oia, which is considered to be the most marvellous Greek village and the city of Fira-the capital of Santorini. On the way back by the ferry you will be entertained by the crew during the evening cultural programme.

CYCLING TOUR : Enjoy a great bike tour and get known with the mountain regions and traditional villages of the south Crete in a different way! Starting point is the taverna Iliomanolis in the Acadian mountain village of Kanevos, 460 m above the sea level. On our way to Agouseliana and to Agios Vasilios we will see the cypress forest unique for this area. After one hour we take the first break. Then we move on to Koxare where we visit a local mandolina maker. After that back on the bike we go downhill trough the Kourtalioti canyon with its monumental rock walls. In Asomatos, a small village at the end of the gorge, we take the chance to visit the pottery of Stavros Kallonakis. Trough the village of Lefkogia we reach Damnoni Bay and then Plakias.

FESTOS- GORTYS- MATALA : A visit of the second most important Minoan palace in Crete –Festos where the famous Disc of Phaistos was found, the place which used to be the oldest settlement on Crete & the capital of Crete in Roman Times – Gortys, to admire the Odeon Ruins, the Christian Basilica of Saint Titos and the most ancient Law Code in Europe. Finally we visit Matala beach which used to be popular during the 60ies by the hippies and where you can visit where you visit the Neolithic caves. This trip includes also visit of the waterfalls and the Agios Nikolaos church in the Kourtaliotiko gorge and visit of the traditional Cretan village of Spili to see the Venetian fountain with its 25 lion heads.

IMBROS GORGE A visit to a picturesque gorge, full of wildness – to the Imbros gorge. The Imbros Gorge lies about 780 m above the sea level next to the Samaria Gorge. The gorge stretches in 8 km and can be walked in 2 - 2½ hours. Its naked rock faces are adorned with a richness of cypress trees and shrubs and bushes. The gorge wind is like a snake and is so narrow in one place that both walls can be touched with outstretched arms. After we go out of the gorge we stop in the first village Koumitades where you can have a lunch. This trip includes also a visit of the Venetian fortress Frankocastello and swimming on the beach.

ANSO TRAVEL WALKING TOURS – with English/German guiding
WALKING TOUR– Following the river : Interesting tour through the Kourtaliotiko gorge down to the Preveli beach with dynamic changes of the environment during the walking. You will enjoy the spectacular views down the gorge and the the surrounding mountains. Programme: We start walking in the middle of the Kourtaliotiko gorge at the Agios Nikolaos church, first you will see the Kourtaliotiko waterfalls, then we will follow the pathway through the gorge until the Venetian bridge. After a short break we will continue to the final destination of the tour – to the Preveli beach. We return back to Plakias by boat. (In case there is no boat we return by car.)

WALKING TOUR – RIVER SAFARI (July- August only) : Exciting tour full of adrenalin – walking inside the river!!! During the hot summer months of July and August we walk inside the refreshing waters of the river in Kourtaliotiko gorge down to the Preveli beach. If you are in a good physical condition this is the right challenge for you! Programme: We start walking in the middle of the Kourtaliotiko gorge at the Agios Nikolaos church, first you will see the Kourtaliotiko waterfalls, then we will follow the pathway through the gorge until the Venetian bridge. After a short break we will enter the river and we will walk inside the water to the final destination of the tour – to the Preveli beach. We return back to Plakias by boat.
