We organize following excursions from Plakias:
SAMARIA GORGE : A visit to Crete’s pride and Europe´s longest gorge. The council of Europe designated the National Park of Samaria as a nature reserve of great importance. The Samaria gorge offers a plethora of natural features including wild-flowers, century-old trees, impressive rocky formations, crystal-clear springs. You may also have the chance to see the wild goat Kri-Kri.
Our tour begins early in the morning, your walk will start at a height of 1200 m, walking down to the 0 m above sea level. You will pass through the most famous points of the gorge- the famous Iron Gates and the old deserted village of Samaria.
The walk lasts approximately 4-5 hours, depending on your pace. Every 3 km in the gorge there are water spring with fresh drinkable water and resting points, where you can find shaded areas, banks and toilets. A guide is always nearby to ensure your safety, but you don’t have to follow an organized group, you can choose your own speed of walking.
In Agia Roumeli- a settlement at the exit of the gorge, you will have time for swimming on a beautiful volcanic beach or for a lunch, before boarding the ferry to Chora Sfakion. We will travel by the ferry for about one hour along the south coast. In Chora Sfakion our bus will be waiting for us and brings us back to Plakias along the south coast.
NECESSARY EQUIPMENT: proper shoes, hat, sun cream, bottle for water (in the gorge there are fresh cold watersprings every 3 km where you can update your water), things for the beach.

 FESTOS- GORTYS- MATALA : A visit of the second most important Minoan palace in Crete –Festos where the famous Disc of Phaistos was found, the archaeological place with Roman and Byzantine ruins– Gortys, to admire the Odeon Ruins, the Christian Basilica of Saint Titos and the most ancient Law Code in Europe. Finally we visit Matala beach which used to be popular during the 60ies by the hippies and where you can visit the Neolithic caves. This trip includes also visit of the waterfalls and the Agios Nikolaos church in the Kourtaliotiko gorge and visit of the traditional Cretan village of Spili to see the Venetian fountains with its 25 lion heads or spend some time with shopping of the traditional handmade Cretan products (olive oil, olive cosmetics, raki, handmade carpets, …)

   ANSO TRAVEL WALKING TOURS
WALKING TOUR– “Following the river” : Interesting tour of 8 km through the Kourtaliotiko gorge down to the Preveli beach with dynamic changes of the environment during the walking. You will enjoy the spectacular views down the gorge and the the surrounding mountains. Programme: First we drive you to the starting point of the tour which is in the middle of the Kourtaliotiko gorge. Then we go down the stairs to see the Agios Nikolaos chapel and the Kourtaliotiko waterfalls from a view point. After that we will follow the pathway through the gorge almost until the bottom, where we will meet the river. We will cross the river 2 times at points with shallow water and we will follow the pathway again through typical Cretan vegetation passing some hippie houses and old watering systems until the old olive mill. From the mill we will continue along the street until the Venetian bridge, where we will make our first break. At the bridge there is a small taverna, offering coffee or cold drinks. After the break we will continue a pathway through hills with olive trees to Agia Fotini chapel. From this point our pathway will change and we will continue a way through a rocky terrain. Here the walk is really interesting and exciting, because you will have the chance to enjoy the view over the steep gorge and the palm tree forest around the Preveli beach from an elevated position. We will finish our walk at the final destination of the tour – at the Preveli beach where you will have time for swimming or for refreshment in a small taverna. From the beach we return back to Plakias by boat.
Every guest on this tour will get a sandwich and a water.

Minimum number of persons: 4
  WALKING TOUR – RIVER SAFARI (July- August only) : Exciting tour full of adrenalin – walking inside the river!!! During the hot summer months of July and August we walk inside the refreshing waters of the river in Kourtaliotiko gorge down to the Preveli beach. If you are in a good physical condition this is the right challenge for you! Programme: We start walking in the middle of the Kourtaliotiko gorge at the Agios Nikolaos church, first you will see the Kourtaliotiko waterfalls, then we will follow the pathway through the gorge until the Venetian bridge. After a short break we will enter the river and we will walk inside the water to the final destination of the tour – to the Preveli beach. We return back to Plakias by boat.

We run Walking tour - RIVER SAFARI only in July-August
Minimum number of persons: 4
 GRAMVOUSSA : A cruise to Gramvoussa Island and the lagoon of Balos.After the departure from the port of Kissamos we will cross the bay of Kissamos passing by the big cave estimated to have been an Ancient shipyard Tarsanas. You will be able to observe the geological phenomenon where Crete is rising out of the sea at the west and sinking at the east side. Then after sailing round the Agria Gramvoussa and Vouxa cape we will arrive to the island of Gramvoussa and the disembarkation will follow. You will have time for the visit of a Venetian Castle and swimming. From the Gramvoussa island we will continue to the lagoon of Balos, where you will have time for swimming again. From Balos we will return back to the port of Kissamos and then to Plakias.

 SANTORINI : A visit of the island with the most beatiful breathtaking sea views. We offer a whole package excursion to the island Santorini, including the transfer with a comfortable coach from Plakias to the port in Rethymnon, boattrip to and back from Santorini, round cruise with a coach through the island of Santorini with a proffesional guide and the trasfer with a coach back to Plakias. The round cruise on Santorini includes visit of the village of Oia, which is considered to be the most marvellous Greek village and the city of Fira-the capital of Santorini. From Fira you will have a chance to make a short optional trip with a small boat to Caldera or to go for swimming to the beach of Perissa.
